Birthday Party

Originally know as: The Boys next Door
Based out of: Melbourne, Australia
Labels: Missing Link Records, 4AD & Shock Records
Years together: 1976 - 1983

Members:
Nick Cave
Mick Harvey

Rowland S. Howard (deceased)

Discography:
  1. Prayers on Fire - 1981

  3. It's still Living - 1985
  4. Best and Rarest - 1985
  5. Hee Haw - 1979 (re-released in 1988)
Sounds Like:
  • As: Nick Cave was vocals. Mick Harvey was vocals, guitar, and drums. Tracy Pew was on bass and vocals. Phill Calvert was on drums. & Rowland S. Howard was vocals and guitar Birthday Party is as if someone playing Jazz kicked your teeth in.

Live:
  • Being that I am way to young to have seen them live, I just have to go with what my mom told me: It made her scared for her safety. Check out the video below of them performing live:

Videos:
  • The band has one video that I know of for the song - Nick the Stripper - which makes me feel like I'm in some kind of zombie movie with really cool guitar tones.

In 1983 the band broke up due to a split between the friendship of Cave and Howard, in addition to work and drug related exhaustion. After the brake up the members formed other acts like; Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Crime and the City Solution, These Immortal Souls, and Honeymoon in Red.

Birthday Party has been noted for influencing bands such as:
  1. The Jesus and Mary Chain
  2. My Bloody Valentine
  3. The Jesus Lizard
  4. Dinosaur Jr
  5. The Horrors
and many more to this day...

This band is also a big influence on me personally as a musician and I hope everyone gives it a listen.
